I'm still pondering what to give up, personally. The fact that my sophomore sis from college is getting married AT the school's chapel in May suggests I should give up eating altogether...
We had a priest one year whose family gave up all commercially prepared foods for Lent. (I think somehow this was more of a strain on his wife than him....) He said he wanted to have a greater connection with the people who made his food and not get it from a window or someone he'd never met. A very early slow food adopter and a nice idea, in theory. Does chatting up the guy who makes my sandwich at the coffee shop count?
