So I had kind of this wild idea to try dyeing some yarn with some burgundy wine. The light colored skein was dyed at 100% (one quart wine to 100 grams yarn seems like one to one for my purposes) and the dark colored skein was dyed at 300% (aka: 3 qt/100 gr.) I think my experiment was successful.

I think it's fabulous. In your coffee vein - I have successfully dyed lace with colored teas. Since you're branching out. g

Oh, I just love it! And no need for adding vinegar to set the color I assume? May need to do this myself today.
Again, THAT is yarn dyeing I could get excited about...
I'd say it was stunningly successful.
I remember going shopping with your Mom for some Burgundy to cook with at the liquor store in Utah. She found a bottle that was, I think, a half gallon for something like $4.12 and said she really didn't want that big a bottle. Um, for that price you can pour half of it out. Burgundy is so low priced that they don't put it in bottles smaller than half-gallon.
I mock her, but I do exactly the same thing. "Don't they have a smaller bottle?" That honking big bottle is a pain in the butt. Unless you're dying yarn with it, in which case it probably comes in handy.
Not sure about keeping it in a paper bag and drinking it behind the 7-11. Size might count for that.
That turned out great. I'm going to have to make some burgandy beef and dye some yarn. What a great idea, Barb!!!

I'd be afraid that there wouldn't be enough left over to dye the yarn with. LOL
I was just reading some of your old posts and saw the one about dying yarn with wine. I have been wanting to try that and now that I see how it came out I think I will.
I can see a merlot yarn in my future!
